Privacy & location

Effective July 27, 2026

The short version: your trips live on your phone (and in your account, if you make one). We don't sell your data, there are no ads, and your location is used only to make the app work while you're using it.

PointMe is made by PointMe LLC, a Texas company ("PointMe," "we," "us"). This policy covers the PointMe app, this website, and the waitlist.

What lives on your phone

Trips, favorites, Home & Work, Road Cred points, badges, the trip logbook, settings, and a local crash log are stored in your browser's storage on your device. Clearing site data erases them (unless they're synced to an account).

Your account is optional

If you sign in (email + a one-time code — no passwords), your email address and your PointMe data (trips, badges, points, settings) are stored with our database provider, Supabase, so they survive a phone change and sync between devices. Sign-in emails are delivered by Resend. You can delete your account and its cloud data any time in Settings → Account.

Location

PointMe uses your live location only while you're using the app — to point the beam, play Hot & Cold, navigate, and find stops near you. To answer those requests, coordinates (with your device's IP address) are sent to the services doing the work: our own servers (routing proxy and the PointMe stops catalog), OpenRouteService (turn-by-turn routing), Photon/Nominatim (place search), OpenStreetMap Overpass (backup place data), and OpenFreeMap (map tiles). Each sees only what it needs to answer that request, and none of them get your name or account details from us. There is no background tracking — when you close PointMe, location stops.

Analytics & error reports

We use PostHog to understand how PointMe is used — events like a trip starting, a stop arrival, or a badge unlocking, along with device and browser info. Session replays may be enabled to help us fix bugs. When something crashes, an error report is sent so we can repair it. All of this is used to improve PointMe, nothing else.

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist on this site, your email address is stored with Kit (ConvertKit), our email provider, and used only for PointMe launch updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list. This website itself sets no tracking cookies; its fonts are served by Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.

What we never do

We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We don't build profiles of where you drive for anyone else.

Aggregated & de-identified data

We may use data that can't reasonably identify you — like overall trends in which stops are popular or how features are used — to improve PointMe, publish fun statistics, and make the catalog better. De-identified data is never re-identified.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — which is one reason we collect as little as we do.

When the law asks

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it's required by law — a subpoena, court order, or similar legal process — or to protect the rights, safety, or property of PointMe or others.

How long we keep things

Account data stays until you delete your account (deleting removes your cloud data). On-device data stays until you clear it. Waitlist emails stay until you unsubscribe. Analytics and error reports are kept only as long as we need them to understand and improve the app, then age out on our provider's standard schedule. Support emails stay as long as we need them to help you.

Where your data lives

PointMe is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on services based in the United States.

Children

PointMe isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and everything in it from inside PointMe, without asking us: Settings → Account → Delete account. It can't be undone. If you'd rather we did it, or you can't get into your account, email privacy@pointmemap.com from the address you signed up with and we'll do it within 30 days.

Deleting your account removes your sign-in record and email address, your saved trips and places, your logbook, your Road Cred points and badges, and your settings. All of that goes straight away. Your analytics history is deleted too, but our analytics provider clears it in batches, so it takes a few days rather than being instant. Any session recordings are deleted on our normal 30-day cycle.

Two things outlive the deletion, neither of which is linked to you afterwards. If you reported a problem with a stop, the report stays in the map so the fix survives, but your account is detached from it. And if you searched for a place we don't have yet, the search term is kept as a to-do for us, with only a rounded, town-level idea of where it was searched from — never your exact position, and never your identity.

Data stored only on your device is deleted with the app, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. If you joined the waitlist, the unsubscribe link in any email removes you from that list separately.

Changes & contact

If this policy changes meaningfully we'll update the date above and say so in the app. Questions: hello@pointmemap.com.
